We had booked in for a 2 night weekend stay which included breakfast (we were given the option of a continental of fully cooked breakfast which was of a high standard and delivered at the time that we had requested). The room we had was clean, comfortable and spacious with everything we required and the hosts were very friendly and helpful during our stay. We decided to stay an extra night which was not a problem and would definitely stay again and certainly recommend as great value for money. Very handy to city, and hosts told us of a local walk through bush to the seafront boardwalk. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here and what a great stay it was. Not only was it clean and spacious but also quite modern. The bathroom was nicely laid out and the little kitchen area was well stocked. The bed was very comfy (actually the bed was HUGE) and the tv was obviously brand new. I think they had sky, too. But the weather was so amazing we didn’t stay inside too much.

The owners are lovely lovely people, when we stayed the lady was pregnant and the chap was running round as they were having a spa installed.

Northgate is only a short walk away from the town, a stone’s throw away from the beach and park. I do recall it being on the main road into New Plymouth, and our room was facing the road, however didn’t hear a single car go past.

I found it to be reasonably priced and certainly wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it. Great rooms, in a great location at a reasonable price, what more could you want?

As a corporate client, I stay at The Northgate many times each year and can honestly say that since Paul and Sharyn took it over, the standard of the rooms has continued to improve since I first stayed there back in 2009.

Paul and Sharyn always make me very welcome and they and the cleaners are extremely honest. I dropped my wallet without realizing it and the cleaner who found it, gave it to Sharyn who promptly made several calls until she finally tracked me down and I was able to get my wallet back before I left New Plymouth.

The rooms are quiet and well appointed with heat pumps that work and a small kitchen which is ideal. I especially like the large flat screen TV, and now with the addition of MySky, I can generally find something to watch when the weather turns bad. The high speed wireless internet is great for my work stuff and being so handy to town makes it great for getting a meal or hopping out to see what is going on.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants an affordable motel close to all the city. There is plenty of parking and it is QUIET! Tell Paul or Sharyn if you have any specific requirements at the time of your booking. They will do their best to make your stay all you want it to be.
