Caring for our Environment
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
At Northgate Motor Lodge, we understand that our business and our activities have an impact on the environment in which we operate.
We recognise that we need to look at the impact that our operations have on the environment (locally and globally) and take steps to achieve sound environmental performance.
We have identified our main environmental issues as being; the disposal of waste, efficient use of raw materials, and the use and conservation of energy and water. We therefore aim to make decisions that address these issues in an environmentally considerate and efficient manner without compromising the quality of our product and services to our guests.
Northgate Motor Lodge initiatives are:
* Systems are set up for the recycling of paper, tin and aluminum cans, glass, cardboard, plastic milk bottles and food scraps.
*We use biodegradable plastic bags in our guest room rubbish bins reducing the number of non biodegradable bags to the local landfill.
*We offer a towel change agreement which ensures you’re helping the environment by reducing energy and water use.
*Lighting in the motel rooms has changed from light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs.
*Heat pumps are installed in all units to conserve energy use for heating.
*Showers have improved flow shower heads to maximise efficiently the water and energy use.
*We have landscaped and planted a large portion of the property in trees that are hardy to the Taranaki environment, resilient to disease and requiring minimal fertiliser. Therefore minimising the use of chemical sprays and fertilisers.
QUALMARK ENVIRO-BRONZE
At Northgate we are proud to be one of the few motels within the Taranaki area that hold a recognised qualmark Enviro-Bronze status. We have worked diligently to introduce and sustain several aspects of the daily running of the motel in line with environmental awareness.
By meeting the Responsible Tourism Operations criteria we have been achieving the following:
* Giving our guests confidence that we care for our part of the world.
* Contributing to New Zealand’s reputation as a sustainable destination.
* Making positive changes in our business that help the environment and our community.
* Enhancing our guests experience.
* Benefiting our business and its place in our community.
